Organisation Details
South Square Centre in Thornton has transformed its historic space into a vibrant hub for residents and visitors. The centre offers a welcoming environment where people can engage with contemporary art, participate in workshops, and connect with others in the heart of the village. Central to this is their community café.
With a programme designed to inspire and involve the community, South Square hosts exhibitions, drop-in sessions, and creative activities that highlight local talent. As part of the Bradford 2025 celebrations, the centre will play a key role in bringing people together with a series of events that showcase Thornton’s unique culture and heritage, contributing to the city’s status as the UK City of Culture.
Project Details
Having recently decorated the exhibition spaces with volunteers, we are now looking to give the Community Café a fresh coat of paint.
Redecorating will include:
- Preparing surfaces
- Painting walls – 2x coats
- Painting doors – gloss
- Painting skirting boards – gloss
The above is a simplified process we will use on the day.
Date & Number of Volunteers
We are looking to engage 10 volunteers.
Monday 27th January (9:30am to 4:30pm)
We understand this project has a quick turnaround compared to our usual business team volunteer days. On this occasion, we welcome smaller groups, with 1-3 volunteers per business, working together as part of a combined team representing multiple Businesses.
On-site support
On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.
Preparation
Volunteers will be undertaking painting activities and are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing that you will not mind getting paint on. We do offer paint overalls, although these do not guarantee no damage to clothing. We also require sensible sturdy footwear, avoiding heels and open toe footwear. Where personal protective equipment is required, it will be provided.
Materials, tools and equipment
Tools and materials will be provided by Participate Projects.
