Organisation Details

St Michaels Community Hall has not been used for any activity for some years and as a result is in need of renovation. The hope is that is can open its doors to support the local community. Planned activities include groups for young people during school holidays, coffee mornings including arts and hobby-crafts.

Project Details

The sanctuary is run entirely by local volunteers who are passionate about horses. Supporting these horses is very time consuming, so tasks around the site or often hard to complete. Your team will support with completing the below:

  • Repainting building exterior
  • Repaint toilets
  • Gloss doors
  • Ground clearance outdoors
  • Clearing floor of mossy overgrowth

We are looking to recruit up to 15 volunteers.

On-site support

On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.

Preparation

Volunteers will be undertaking construction gardening and painting activities and are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing. Volunteers should pay particular attention to footwear wearing tough shoes or boots. This is a relatively low risk challenge and where personal protective equipment is required it will be provided. This will include latex free gloves to protect rings etc when painting. Please be aware if you are painting, you will get this on your clothing and will not wash out. Again we recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind spoiling. If volunteers wish to bring their own gloves they are welcome to do so. This challenge is taking place outdoors and as such the volunteers should be prepared for inclement weather or sunshine.
